Production Updates as of 5/19

We've had a lot of movement since my last production update.

  • The final manuscript and cover have been sent off to the printer for digital proofing.
  • The digital proof of the card deck and box has been approved for production.
  • The digital proof of the character sheet pad has been approved for production.
  • The files for the Collector's Edition box have been sent and I'm awaiting the digital proof.
  • The bookmarks have been ordered and production will begin by the end of the month on those.
  • The digital mockup for the pins has been approved and production will begin next week.
  • Digital proof for the journal has been approved and production will begin next week.
  • I'm reorganizing my office and as soon as that is done I'm buying a Canon image PROGRAF PRO-1000 so I can start making your prints.
  • The T-Shirts are done and I'm picking them up today after work (will send some nice action shots when possible).
  • The additional scenarios that were unlocked as stretch goals are completely DONE and will be delivered soon (I will be getting them printed and will have a printed version available for purchase via the PledgeManager on BackerKit) but you'll still get the digital version(s) free; both text-only and a graphics-heavy version.
  • Lastly, I've heard a nearly finished version of the first track from OldRomans and it's FANTASTIC- can't wait to share it with you!!!

Keep an eye out for an email from [email protected] in the coming days with instructions to download all your digital goodies. That's all!!!

P.S.: Check out these projects I'm involved in:

I've been lucky enough to be a consultant on this AMAZING tarot deck and it's launching soon: https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/e95abd7a-b839-4508-ac4e-0d34f5693a0b/landing

I've been co-creating this insightful set of sisterhood-focused tools with the Heart Temple and I'm incredibly proud of what we're putting together: https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/1c84b954-2b30-4b8d-8c4c-630648dff7c0/landing

I'm lucky enough to have there (3!) cards in the new Alleyway's Oracle. The more money it raises, the more each of the contributing artists gets paid! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/publishinggoblin/the-alleyway-oracles

#05 Diving Right In

Stretch Goals

While I didn't have time to update the graphic before the Kickstarter project ended (once it's over you can no longer update the project story), I still wanted to share the finalized list of stretch goals:

I heard a teaser of OldRoman's first track and it is FIRE! He's making music that coincides with the different locations and I'll have a teaser to share soon.

I read a mostly final draft of Zac Goin's scenario and it is one the coolest ideas I've ever read. I can't wait to start working on punkifying the PDF for you all.

I haven't read what John's putting together but I know it will also blow me away.

As for the 20-point chart, by now you all can guess that I'm atmosphere-heavy and combat-light, so I'm going to go with a list of smells. Don't worry, they will be gross and moody.

Production Updates

We are moving right along! It helps that aside from the stretch goal items that affect the main book, everything was already completely designed. For the prints, I've raised enough money to buy a high-quality printer (Canon ImagePROGRAG), so I'll be making those myself once I reorganize my office and get the money from Kickstarter.   Also, if you're curious, these are the quantities of each item that I'll be going with:

  • Hardcover Book: 750
  • Card Deck: 200
  • Character Sheet Pad: 200
  • Collector's Edition Box: 100
  • Aluminum Bookmarks: 200
  • Enamel Pins: 150
  • Journal: 200
  • T-Shirts: 40
  • 5x7 Prints: 200

Other Projects

As this is in production, I've got two other projects I'm working on that I want to share with each of you. They are both in the very early stages, but I would still love it if you reached joined the BackerKit Launch page to be notified as progress is being made:

Lies By Omission is a proprietary role-playing game system I've designed that focus on investigation and mystery. I have the first draft of the core rulebook free on Itch.io and I'm working on a campaign setting that will be launched on Kickstarter towards the end of the year. Women's Wheel is a set of community-building divination tools that explore the experiences of women as they migrate through archetypes and seasons. Designed in conjunction with The Heart Temple. Click this link or the image above to learn more.

#05: Funded!!!!
almost 3 years ago – Mon, May 01, 2023 at 09:17:56 AM

Think you're all once again for the amazing assistance with getting this project off the ground. I'll be sending a more elaborate update soon, right now I just wanted to say thank you all so much and people on the internet!

#04 - Approaching a HUGE Goal....
almost 3 years ago – Fri, Apr 21, 2023 at 06:08:31 AM

As of writing this, we are $1 away from $15k. This will unlock a new scenario, using my illustrations, by the amazing author John Baltisberger. He has written some amazing Mork Borg stuff in the past and I'm super lucky to have him on board. Just like the scenario from Zac Goins, it will be delivered via PDF. I'll add some art and layout flourishes to make sure it's worth printing, and it'll reference the illustrations present in the book AND the Oracle deck add-on (so if you haven't added that to your pledge yet, you should!!)

For the Oracle deck, I plan on adding a similar deck to each of my future projects so hopefully, somewhere down the road, collectors can have a huge stack of crazy art Oracle cards as player references for any kind of scenario you dream up.

We are also closely approaching $15,874 in funding. This is significant to me because this project is my 18th Kickstarter project, and my previously highest-funded project hit $15,874. If I were to map out the success of my projects, it would be a jagged, yet upward-rising trajectory. Every time I see people pledge to my projects, I am heartened that I am on the right path with my business. So thank you to all of you who help me inch closer to quitting my day job in market research.

I also want to discuss the risograph poster. As an illustrator, I often make posters for live events. When I had the idea for this project, I really wanted to make a movie poster for it, and I wanted to explore the Giallo space. Giallo refers to a genre of Italian Horror from the '60s and '70s, and I wanted to simulate it. I even went as far as using a retro printing method called Risograph printing. It uses separate drums, covered in ink, for each individual color. When you look closely, you see that the colors are made of a gorgeous arrangement of dots. Here's a closeup:

Close-up of the Risograph Limited Edition Poster

A big question I had going into this project's design was how many Collector's Editions should I offer. Well, it looks like I pretty much nailed the number on the head. Right now there are only 10 left with as many days left in the campaign. I'm also going to put this fun pattern inside the box, which is the praying hands logo in yellow over the game's signature shade of pink:

Digital Mockup

So if you've been on the fence about getting the collector's edition, maybe this box interior will do it for you!!

One last question for all of you (if you've even made it this far)- The player's sheet currently has no back. A fun thing about Mork Borg is that character sheets don't need all that space for data. so are you all disappointed to hear that the back is blank? Should I add lines to the back or dots, like the journal? What would you all like?

Thank you!!

#03 - New Graphics, New Stretch Goals
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 13, 2023 at 05:44:49 AM

So Kickstarter just recently allowed us to upload images to our add-ons and pledge levels, so I've used the same graphics that are in the project story to help clarify those items.

I also wasn't too happy with the render I made for the Collectors Edition box, so I created a new animated gif with better lighting. If anyone is curious, the render was done via Boxshot and the graphic was assembled in Photoshop. You can see the new animated gif in the project story and at the bottom of this update.

As for stretch goals, we've hit the top four, and based on Backer Tracker's predictions, we'll make it all the way to the $23k mark before the project closes. If that happens, and we unlock the fourth track by OldRomans, I'll throw in the next stretch goal as a thank you.

Speaking of which, we've already got Zac Goins and John Baltisberger writing scenarios with my illustrations- which other GMs in the Mork Borg space do you have in mind for that third spot?

One last thing before I let you go. I'm always working on new stuff. While this is my 18th Kickstarter project, I've got three more in active development, and one that I know all of you will be interested in is still months away from launch, but I'd love to get some feedback on it:

Lies by Omission is role-playing game inspired by 70's Italian Horror films and focuses on investigation and growing gothic dread in a bucolic setting. An early draft of the core rulebook is currently available for download on my itch.io page.
